Couples Travel: Costa Rica and its ‘Pura Vida’ for Valentine’s Day

Costa Rica reminds me of my home country Venezuela. I love Costa Rica for its beauty, rivers, mountains, and waterfalls, are just stunning.

If you are looking for a romantic getaway for Valentine’s day, I highly recommend Costa Rica as romantic destination.  I am sure you and your better half will have a lovely time.

I have two great options, the first is Bahia del Sol Hotel. It’s located in front of Playa Potrero. We found it accidentally when we went to eat at the NASU restaurant in the hotel. We loved it so much that we changed our reservations to that hotel the very next day!

This beachfront boutique hotel is in Guanacaste, on Bahía del Sol beach and has a success philosophy that everything is sustainable, to contribute to the balance of nature and the community. It was wonderful to stay in an environmentally friendly hotel that provided so many luxuries.

The rooms are surrounded by exotic tropical gardens and in the center of the hotel there is a majestic pool overlooking the beach, which has a bar service with very modern facilities –it also has a Spa and free yoga classes for guests.

I recommend you stay at the suite “King Sun or Honeymoon Suite” which are most romantic choices this hotel has to offer!  Breakfast is included with the stay. You can spend the afternoon drinking champagne or piña coladas under the sun by the pool or the beach (in both places you will have a blast because the service of the hotel’s staff is extraordinary).

Get more romantic, in the sunset and dine in the “Nasu Restaurant” that is inside the hotel, like I said before, was amazing. Nasu’s international cuisine and creativity for each dish is spectacular. Our favorites dishes of course were the typical Costa Rican, but the chef added a tropical touch to all the specialties. All of this along with the open-elegant concept dining room will leave you and your Valentino more in love than ever.

Don’t forget to take a tour there are many to choose from! I personally recommend choosing a tour that includes waterfalls, horseback riding, hot springs and rope swing (for the more adventurous). Make a visit to the famous “Rincón de la Vieja” and finish your getaway with a rejuvenating mud treatment … it will be just unforgettable!

Costa Rica on the budget

The second option is easier on the budget! Who doesn’t love to save money? Rent a Villa for two a “Villas y Condominios de Guanacaste”, they are in Guanacaste, near Playa Potrero, the prices are super affordable. The villas come typically decorated with full kitchen, even though we did not use it because we walked every day to any place nearby for breakfast (my husband and I are fond of walks plus the prices are incredibly low compared to other destinations we have visited).

Each Villa has an area at the entrance with hammocks along with its barbecue area, where some guests cooked during the evenings at cocktail time.

The best thing is that you can walk to the beach, which is just across the street. The Villas also have a large pool in the center called “Sueño al mar” with all the amenities! You can rent a golf cart if you wish to ride around (but we preferred to rent a car, from the airport).

We went to the pool every afternoon after the beach, we made friends and would hang out at the pool! We love the locals and the jovial lifestyle.

Please explore around “Las Catalinas”, “Playa Penca”, and spend at least one sunset at the COCO LOCO restaurant at “Playa Flamingo” where the ceviche with plantains are delicious and fresh and drink the wonderful “Coco Loco” drink with the same name and have a great Valentine’s Day and Pura Vida!
