Miami Fashion Week will honor Brazilian designer, Carlos Miele with “International Designer of the Year” award

Miami Fashion Week will celebrate its 15th Anniversary this year by honoring Brazilian designer Carlos Miele with the International Designer of the Year award on March 20th. Miele will also be exclusively debuting his 2013 Fall/Winter Collection at the event.

Known for his creative convergence of cut and design, in conjunction with combinations of craft and luxury influenced by his Brazilian roots, Miele counts celebrities including Florence Welch, Rihanna, Blake Lively, Jennifer Lopez, and Beyoncé as fans. Suzy Menkes of The International Herald Tribune, once declared Miele the “master of the delicate craft and intricate detail,” while Le Figaro’s Virginie Mouzat has written Miele “walks between austerity and exuberance; his work is sophisticated and elegant.” With designs also praised by Women’s Wear Daily, Style.com, Vogue and Vogue Paris, Miami Fashion Week is pleased to present the International Designer of the Year Award to Miele for his continued innovative vision and contributions to the fashion industry. Miami Moda & Music Awards® will close the week on March 24, 2013 recognizing the outstanding talent by the best emerging designers from around the world.
Designers from over 25 countries will participate in Miami Fashion Week from March 20th – 24th. Ranked fifth on the world fashion calendar and recognized as the second largest and most prestigious international fashion event in the United States, Miami Fashion Week will be held at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The event is a five-day Sobol-Perry Fashion Production featuring twelve multi-designer runway shows with collections ranging from swimwear to eveningwear to menswear.

The designers’ latest collections will be shown throughout the week, while the jewelry and accessory marketplace will be featured in the Convention Center’s “Fashion City,” comprised of gourmet cafés with celebrity chefs, international designer pop-up shops, a luxury wedding pavilion showcasing international bridal designers and sponsor lounges. Miami Fashion Week is dedicated to recognizing rising talent in the international and Hispanic fashion world’s and annually hosts a series of competitions for the up and coming designers and students studying fashion design, fashion photography, jewelry making, handbag design, and graphic arts. Scholarships are awarded by the Miami Fashion Week Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) independent, not-for-profit organization supporting the winners in continuing their educations in the creative arts.
