Celebs Next Door: Jonathan Torres, when passion is the best PR

Ecuador native Jonathan Torres has more than eight years of public relations and marketing experience, achieving great recognition in our magic city as communications and marketing manager for Canyon Ranch Hotel & Spa in Miami Beach.
His amazing works with local, national, and international publications has been an important key in motivating others to action, becoming one of the best PR representatives in Miami.

Lissette Rondon, President of Miami Fashion Spotlight, got an exclusive interview with this local celebrity where he talked about his passion for PR, fashion in Miami, and more. Check it out!

LR- When did you start to feel passion for public relations and fashion?

“My passion for PR began when I was living in New York while I was working for houses of fashion such as: Donna Karan and Dolce & Gabbana. I came to Miami without knowing anyone, but I quickly began in the field because I met our friend Elias Maida in “Funkshion Fashion Week.” Elias was the first person I met in the fashion world in this city– with him I began to take my firs steps trying to establish my name doing PR, finding the big wave when I started working at Viceroy Hotel,” added Torres.

“My love for fashion started from my childhood in Ecuador. We were a poor family and I used to love my school supplies from American brands and my mom always tried to give me the best; spoiling me and encouraging my love for fashion. Later working for these fashion houses I fell in love with the industry.”

LR- What do you think about fashion in Miami?

“Fashion in Miami is very different from New York that is a city with four seasons, and its people dress well. I was surprised to see people in flip-flops when I first arrived in Miami. Over the years I think the fashion industry has evolved a lot. Today we have the presence of many international designers and amazing brands that have opened their stores here in Bal Harbour Shops, such as: Bottega veneta, Chloe, Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior, among others,” said Torres.

LR- Which are your favorite local designers?

“I like Venezuelan designer, Nicolas Felizola—especially the collection that came out in 2010 made in fabrics that reduce degrees under the sun. It was a perfect collection for Miami,” added Torres.

“I love Silvia Tcherassi (She is not from Miami)—I like when she is in town because I love her designs; accessories, handbags, jewelry, and wedding dresses. Her designs have no age; they go well on a girl of 20 years old just the same as a woman over 40 years old.”

LR- Could you define your work and yourself with just 3 words?

“Perfeccionist, persistent, charitable.”

“Things don’t come easy; you have to work with passion and persistence to break down the walls that are on the way and move forward.”
