Sunscreen, a good moisturizer, and hoping for the best? Well not for much longer – a second skin has been developed in the same way that organs are grown in labs. Products now exist where, for a full 24 hours, you can erase wrinkles and cover eye bags without having any major surgery. That’s right – silicone-based creams can be applied in 2 stages which form a thin, transparent film on your face which stays on for a full 24 hours before it needs to be peeled off. Prevention with medical grade sunscreens and skincare regimes to maintain skin health and reduce oxidative damage and stress are also key predictions for taking better care of our skin.
Beyond Botox
Collagen production slows down with age, but what if there was a way to escape the needles? Botox is very limited in what they can achieve, and a decent antiaging regime requires a combination of lots of different therapies. It’s also just like going to the gym – you must keep it up or you lose the results! Collagen is an incredibly important protein that keeps your tissues and bones together. Specifically, for your skin, collagen helps give your skin structure and elasticity, or that famous ‘bounce’. You can now buy drinkable collagen! A placebo-controlled trial run by one manufacturer found that 10 grams of a daily collagen peptide supplement improved skin hydration after eight weeks, increased density, and decreased fragmentation of collagen in the skin after four weeks. Look for topical products like creams containing vitamin A with ingredients like retinol and tretinoin. These are the gold standard for boosting collagen in the skin. Vitamin C serums are also fantastic for increasing collagen. Skin tightening, and energy-based treatments done with radio frequency are also becoming more widely available, so the future is looking bright for those of us who don’t fancy going under the knife!

Gene editing can be used to save lives – from people suffering from extensive skin damage to designer babies, it is slowly going to make its way into the world of cosmetology. Some therapies that can be used to treat a disease could potentially be used for purely cosmetic or competitive purposes. For example, gene therapy developed as a treatment for muscular dystrophy could potentially be exploited to make a healthy person more muscular. Modifying a few base pairs in your genome will give you fairer or darker hair or skin. Think of it as a kind of cut and paste tool for DNA… it would be possible to change skin, hair or eye color with a single injection, and even change back later, or choose other tones, almost at will. Unlike plastic surgeries, there is no reason to be afraid to not like the result, as you can simply re-edit your DNA and get a new injection.
Infusion Therapy
The more we learn about the effectiveness of natural, botanical skin care ingredients, the availability of better treatment serums will increase. These serums will be used along with microdermabrasion machine treatments, derma needling, and in conjunction with E-stim and ultrasound treatments for enhanced absorption and efficacy. Specialist products are set to boom, such as treatments which focus more accurately on aesthetic attention on problem areas – targeted products for the skin and tissue that is found in that specific area.
