Session with Viviana Gabeiras at ‘Draw: A party with great lines’ event

We were honored to be invited to the event “DRAW: A Party with Great lines” at the Art Center of South Florida at the Miami Design District. The event featured live drawing sessions of models in the latest fashions. It was sponsored by a favorite brand in Miami, Petit Pois by Viviana G.

While guests were socializing, drawing and receiving tips from the artists, we had the opportunity to have a session with the creator of the brand Petit Pois, Viviana Gabeiras.

Our moment with Gabeiras gave insight to her incredible world of art and fashion, as well as her motivation to promote fashion in Miami. Here is a breakdown of our time with her.

Lissette Rondon: Tell us about your participation in this event, DRAW?

Viviana Gabeiras: This would be the second year that the Art Center of South Florida and the Miami Design District make the Draw event. This event which unites fashion and art, creates an interactive platform between artists, designers, models and the general public. My Brand Ambassador Valeria Luzio was commissioned to do the styling of the event and she submitted Petit Pois by Viviana G to be the sponsoring brand.

LR: What collection are you presenting tonight?

VG: The theme of the event is Pantone Color of the Year, which is a peach hue. This is the reason why all the designs that were chosen fall in this range of colors. We are not only presenting top notch fashion pieces, we are also displaying some special vintage designs.

LR: What is the purpose of today’s event?

VG: Today’s event aims at creating a link between art and fashion. The Art Center South Florida aims to encourage the general public to draw in the festive spirit and showcase their individual talent. It is quite interesting to experience how artists as well as the public express their perspectives and vies when drawing with various techniques. I was quite elated to fuse and reapply my own designs. It took me back to my days of illustration classes back at the Parsons School of Design in New York.

LR: Tell us a little bit what you are going to do in Vegas.

VG: The most important Fashion Trade Show is taking place at Las Vegas. There, we get to showcase our latest collection even before the New York market can get to see it. On these trips, we focus on increasing interaction with our clients while opening up new accounts. Trade shows are an integral part of the fashion business.

LR: Lately, you have been an advocate in promoting fashion and art in Miami. What has been the motivation behind this?

VG: I have been a local designer for many years, and I understand the difficulties encountered when starting up here in Miami. Fashion and art always go hand in hand, and it is essential to support and recognize new talent. This is the board of the Fashion Group International of South Florida, of which I am a member, supports new designers and enables them to achieve their goals and build a reputation in the fashion industry. Therefore, we create opportunities such as these events where we also work with the local universities.
LR: What are your thoughts on the growth of the fashion industry in Miami, especially in the Miami Design District?

VG: The Design District contributes a lot to the City of Miami. One of its contributions is in employment. There has been an increase in the stores with recognized brands and these stores require human beings as resources to run their daily activities. However, there is still more work left to be done.   Local designers need an avenue to showcase their talent without hassles such as high rents and overhead costs that stunt their growth. We need the local government to help allocate areas for the locals and contribute to the economy. This would help establish many job opportunities.

LR: This is a new fun session that we have adopted in our interviews in 2019, it helps our readers know a little more about local designers. So, I’m going to ask you 10 questions, you’ll have to answer with the first thing that comes to your mind …

LR- What has been the most significant moment in your life?

VG: Personal, the birth of my children.  Professionally, obtaining my title from Parsons School of Design in New York and Paris and when some of my designs were on the front page in the most famous fashion newspaper in the United States “The Women Wear Daily” WWD.

LR: Why the name of your Brand was called Petit Pois?

VG: Petit Pois has the color of money. It does not matter where you put it, it is always bold it, due of its color, its shape, its taste!  It represented my growth process, from being the designer of Sweet Pea to being the creator of Petit Pois by Viviana Gabeiras, all stages that marked a moment of fundamental evolution in my life. I evolved as a person especially in my style and also what the brand represents. I gave to my brand what it now represents; a more sophisticated look, transforming today into a complete collection: “An American Lifestyle Brand”

LR: What is fashion for you?

VG:  My oxygen!

LR: If you could be a hero, who would you be?

VG: Wonder Woman

LR: Book that you have read several times and would read again.

VG: Fashion history books, and storybooks like Alice in Wonderland.

LR: Technology which you identify with the most.

VG: One of our last projects has been to be part of Graupel. They have a new technology that makes a body scanner, it copies the body of the person and develops an avatar with the same measurement and then develops the tailored suits. Thus, customers can see their avatar put on the suit, they see how it fits perfectly.

The client receives the costume made suit in a beautiful wrap and with a personal dedication. The client can always reorder online without having to move from home. She already has her “Avatar”.  I would like to invite you to make your avatar and be part of this revolutionary technology, you would be a perfect candidate.

LR:  What does Happiness mean to you?

VG: There is no such thing as eternal and constant happiness. Happiness is affected by everything that happens around the human being and his family. It is achieved when you achieve balance in your life and fill your life with what is important to you, such as the work you like, the ideal partner etc.

Happiness is really family and love; Happiness lies when you are happy with yourself and you love yourself. Artists and creators are restless human beings that are always in constant search to fill void with creativity. It is quite difficult to please us, we must learn to be happy with ourselves internally first.

LR:  What is your biggest goal for 2019?

VG: The launch of my retrospective book and celebrate the 20th year anniversary of my brand, with an exhibition showcasing the most important pieces in all the years of trajectory, complete with a special runway of our new look.

LR:  What would you forecast as a fashion trend for 2020 and 2021?

VG: We want to evolve towards the sustainable development of designs and fabrics that protect the environment. A lot of big names have taken this step, however the resulting price of the designs have drastically increased. We hope to strike a balance in which sustainability in the fashion industry exist without a positive impact on the environment.

LR:  If I tell you that I have a time machine and that you could go to any particular year, it could be from the past or the future. What year would you choose?

VG: The 20’s or “La Belle Epoque”.

VG: Wonder Woman.

LR: Libro que has leído varias veces y volverías a leer.

VG: No existe felicidad eterna y constante.

VG: Los años 20’s o “La Belle Epoque”.
