The Women’s Breast Health Initiative, Florida Affiliate (WBHI) held its Seventh Annual Open the Door Awards Dinner and Auction on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Turnberry Isle Miami in Aventura.

The Miami-based nonprofit organization supports early detection of breast cancer and heart disease by going door-to-door to provide life-saving information to at risk women. Funds raised from this event will directly assist under served women in South Florida to receive breast and heart health education, prevention, screening and treatment. In addition to raising funds for the organization, the gala served as a way for WBHI to thank its supporters.

The honorees, Assurant, the Miami Dolphins Special Teams and Wayne Rinehart, were recognized for their continuous support and service to the organization’s mission. More than 350 people attended the annual gala, which, featured a “Jazz It Up” theme with a live jazz performance, cocktails and dinner, and a silent and live auction. Presenting sponsors, Don Soffer joined by his wife Michele, wowed the audience with their wit and humor as they shared about their longtime support for WBHI.

The live auction featured a White Hot Miami Heat Package and trips to Jerusalem. Miami Heat’s Alonzo Mourning, attended the gala and served as an auctioneer alongside Calvin Hughes. Both auctioneers were magnificent and persuaded guests to bid. The trips were so exciting that both Alonzo and Calvin purchased the once in a lifetime experience packages to Jerusalem. “This year’s event was a huge success,” said Andrea Ivory, founder and executive director of the Women’s Breast Health Initiative.

“The best part of hosting a successful event such as the Open the Door Awards Dinner and Auction is showing our appreciation for our community partners and donors while providing them with updates of our latest achievements as we celebrate our success.”
