Miami Fashion Week said good Bye last week, but we are still in slow motion remembering our favorite pieces from all the Resort collections and of course gathering the new trends which each designer has contributed to our city and the world!
Yes, did you know that Miami has been gaining a global recognition as a fashion capital of the world, in the same spirit as New York, Milan, and Paris? At the press conference, the honorary President, Antonio Banderas (super handsome by the way) announced that MIAFW was named the second largest fashion event in the United States and we are thrilled about that!
After 5 days of covering the fashion presentations at the Ice Palace Film Studios, we felt like we were part of this fashion adventure too. So, let’s do our job and here are the biggest resort trends directly from the designers’ runway.
The Ruffles era!
Ruffles are back and it looks like they are going to stay for a while. They are ultra-girly and beautifully avant-garde. From sleeves to hemlines or all over the dress, designers such as Oscar Carvallo, Angel Sanchez, and Agatha Ruiz de la Prada showcased cutting-edge pieces with ruffles in their collections.

Metallic Colors
Since 2017, the metallics have continued invading the catwalk! Gold was the fave of designers such as Benito Santos and Oscar Carvallo but Miami’s very own designer, Rene Ruiz, surprised the audience with metallic blue! Ladies, it looks like we are going to have a very shiny wardrobe in 2018-2019!

Fashion-forward Shorts
Yes, the shorts are resurrected! However, we are not talking about those short-shorts that we sometimes see on Miami Beach. We are talking about those chic shorts as a great piece of tailoring. On a purely sartorial level, Angel Sanchez turned on the runway with tailored shorts and glamorous blouses among his Resort Collection. Oscar Carvallo and Benito Santos featured them too, and we totally love them!

Feathers & Bows
You must be thinking: “feathers for a resort?” Well, yes, Nobel Spaniard Designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada presented some fun pieces which were beautifully decorated with feathers and it worked flawlessly. Benito Santos was another designer that went for feathers as an ornament for his pieces.
On the other hand, Angel Sanchez elevated some of his outfits with Bows in a unique way. We know that Bows are not a new trend, but they will be continuing to rock the runway, representing sophistication. They’re a must-have for fashionistas’ outfits.

One-shoulder
2016 was the year of the off-the-shoulder trend but in 2017 designers started to shift for only one-shoulder pieces…until today!
In 2018, this asymmetrical iteration is a trend that doesn’t want to go away. Why? Designers love it!
Agatha Ruiz de la Prada made a statement at her runway with one-shoulder bathing suit pieces. Rene Ruiz, Benito Santos, Oscar Carvallo and Angel Sanchez showcased this trend a lot in their dresses and blouses too. Let’s just say that one-shoulder pieces were the protagonist of the Resort Collections at Miami Fashion Week 2018!
See you next year!
