Miami Fashion Week and Eastern Air Lines announce partnership

Miami Fashion Week and Eastern Air Lines announce partnership

The new Eastern Air Lines will be this year’s presenting sponsor of Miami Fashion Week (MFW), taking place May 15-18 in the Miami Beach Convention Center. Eastern announced earlier this year it will launch service from its Miami base in the next 12 months, subject to US government regulatory approval.

“We are extremely pleased to be one of the sponsors of this years’ Miami Fashion Week, an event which has become an integral part of Miami’s great fashion, art and sports scene. MFW is internationally recognized as a premier event with a focus on Latin America, and we are honored to be part of this event,” said Ed Wegel, President and CEO of Eastern Air Lines Group.

“Just as MFW has become synonymous with Miami, Eastern will also be strongly associated with the Magic City, where it was once the largest airline and had its headquarters here for over 30 years,” Wegel added.

As part of Eastern’s sponsorship of this year’s event, MFW has organized a competition among the top Miami-based fashion designers to design Eastern’s new flight attendant uniforms. More information on this will be released soon.

Eastern filed an application with the United States Department of Transportation on Jan. 28, 2014, for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity and plans on commencing its Part 121 certification with the Federal Aviation Administration shortly.

“To be part of the re-launch of Eastern Air Lines is very exciting for Miami Fashion Week and our locally based designers. Having the opportunity to design the new flight attendant uniforms and be associated with such an iconic brand is a tremendous honor for all, says Beth Sobol, founder and president of Miami Fashion Week.”

With one of the world’s most beautiful beaches and cruise destinations as the setting, on May 15-18, 2014, Miami Fashion Week will showcase the world’s trendiest designers as they present their fashion masterpieces to international buyers, media and fashion trendsetters.
