MFS Magazine: We are happy to have you in our “Top Real Women in Fashion & Business 2022-2023”. We recall that you were named one of the “Top Real Women in Fashion 2012.” How do you feel about being on this special list again?
Athina Marturet: I feel lucky, grateful, and excited. Since 2012, we have made significant progress in female empowerment; many women are waking up and working to feel freer. Listening to that inner voice that comes from the depths, we act with purpose and perseverance to make our essence shine. Exercising our right to be full community members makes us feel powerful. And when empowered women join this beautiful community, they can achieve the impossible.
MFS: When we receive recognition, new doors open, and a strong commitment is formed. Has being named one of the “Top Real Women in Fashion 2012” changed your life? What changes do you believe the new recognition (“Top Real Women in Fashion & Business 2022-2023”) will bring you?
AM: In 2012, doors opened, and I felt even more committed; this inspired me to give even more of myself. It was a push that motivated me to work on the “real” thing in me, my essence! It began a new cycle in my life as a woman and entrepreneur. Many things changed, including my work with the Miami Symphony, my achievements as an actress, and the intensification of my modeling jobs, giving me extra empowerment. I now trust my inner voice and know how to do things better. And receiving this new recognition makes me feel like the positivity and effort I’ve been exuding since then is finally being recognized.
Her Style Evolution
MFS: You have become a fashion icon, appearing on many magazine covers. How do you think your style has evolved in recent years?
AM: My style reflects who I am and what I have become. I enjoy fashion, but it must complement my style and philosophy. The materials and colors must be true to who I am. Otherwise, I don’t feel comfortable. And this has nothing to do with brands; it’s just how I feel about them because, for me, less is more.
MFS: You are a great ambassador for the ‘Miami Symphony,’ a job that allows you to express yourself through the designs you wear. What are your criteria when selecting outfits for each presentation?
AM: I feel happy to meet incredible designers and many friends from the fashion industry who want to dress me. I enjoy expressing my ideas for each event and seeing how they come to fruition. I am very “Miami Chic”–is a term used in Miami to describe dressing “fashionably” but in a way that allows for everything. In fact, in the Miami Symphony, we created an event called “MISO Chic.” I am meaning that my style and mood must understand my outfits–sometimes I feel like a Goddess, other times I seek more comfort, but always chic.

MFS Magazine: Estamos felices de verte de nuevo en nuestras “Top Real Women in Fashion & Business 2022-2023”. Recordemos que fuiste galardonada “Top Real Women in Fashion 2012.” ¿Cómo te sientes de estar nuevamente en esta lista tan especial?
Athina Marturet: Me siento afortunada, agradecida y emocionada; hemos hecho grandes progresos en el empoderamiento femenino desde el 2012. Muchas mujeres están despertando, trabajando en sentirse más libres; escuchando esa voz interior que viene desde lo más profundo, estamos actuando con metas y constancia para sacar a brillar nuestra esencia. Estamos ejerciendo nuestro derecho de ser miembro de la comunidad con todo nuestro potencial. Y cuando mujeres empoderadas se unen en esta bella conspiración se pueden lograr imposibles.
MFS: Cuando recibimos un reconocimiento se abren nuevas puertas. ¿Cambió tu vida haber sido galardonada “Top Real Women in Fashion 2012”? ¿Qué cambios crees te puede traer este nuevo reconocimiento como “Top Real Women in Fashion & Business 2022-2023”?
AM: En el 2012, se abrieron puertas y me sentí aún más comprometida; eso me inspiró a dar aún mas de mí. Fue un empujón que me hizo trabajar eso “real” que había en mí, mi esencia. Trajo un nuevo ciclo en mi vida, como mujer y emprendedora. Muchas cosas se movieron, desde mi trabajo con la Orquesta Sinfónica de Miami, mis logros como actriz–también mis trabajos como modelo se intensificaron brindándome mucho empoderamiento. Ahora confío en mi voz interior y sé cómo hacer las cosas mejor. Y recibir este nuevo nombramiento me hace sentir que ese positivismo y esfuerzo que irradié hacia afuera, desde ese entonces, se está tomando en cuenta ahora.
La Evolución de su Estilo
MFS: Te has convertido en un ícono de la moda; lo que te ha llevado a aparecer en muchas portadas de revistas. ¿Cómo piensas que ha evolucionado tu estilo en los últimos años?
AM: Mi estilo es reflejo de mi esencia y de lo que me he convertido. Amo la moda, pero tiene que adaptarse a mi estilo y filosofía. Los materiales y colores tienen que ser fiel a lo que soy, sino no me siento cómoda. Y eso no tiene que ver con la marca; es simplemente como me siento en ellos, porque para mí, menos, es más.
MFS: Eres una gran embajadora de la ‘Miami Symphony’, un trabajo que realizas con mucha pasión y que te permite expresarte a través de los diseños que usas. ¿Cuál es tu criterio a la hora de escoger los outfits para cada presentación?
AM: Me siento feliz de conocer diseñadores increíbles y mucha gente amiga de la industria de la moda, que me quieren vestir. Me encanta expresar lo que me imagino para cada evento y ver cómo ellos hacen mis ideas realidad. “Miami Chic” es un término que usamos” aquí en Miami–es vestirse “fashion” pero con un estilo propio, donde todo es válido. De hecho, en la “Miami Symphony” creamos un evento que se llamó así: “MISO Chic”… lo que te quiero decir, es que mis outfits tienen que entenderse con mi estilo y mi estado de ánimo–algunas veces me siento una Diosa, otras veces solo busco comodidad, pero siempre “chic”.

Muse of Many Designers, Red Carpets & Empowerment
MFS: You have been the muse of many designers, walking red carpets, wearing designs by Carolina Herrera, Nicolas Felizola, Samy Gicherman, Viviana Gabeiras, Lisu Vega, and Tammy Apostol, among others. How has your experience been with these designers?
AM: They all share a sense of elegance and extravagance and understand the modern woman. They bring concepts to fabric with such creativity–is something I admire. Venezuelan designers like Nicolas Felízola, Angel Sanchez, Oscar Carvallo, Samy Gicherman, and our own Carolina Herrera have “couture” in their blood; they are glamorous but effortless. Like Carolina Herrera with her white blouses. Silvia Tcherassi has that colorful South American style that I love. I like Lisu Vega’s wearable art, and Viviana Gabeiras’ mesh creations are one-of-a-kind. We celebrated the runway with Tammy and MFS Magazine, as well as our MISO, which was a success. I loved opening and closing the show for that sustainable collection!
MFS: We know Venezuelan designer, Gussy López, is your favorite this season. Tell us about the designer-client chemistry between the two of you.
AM: I connected with Gussy’s designs and artistic vision because she combines classic with futuristic styles, using cutting-edge fabrics. She is a professional with a lot of creativity. Thanks to that connection, it is simple for her to understand when designing a piece for me. She is yet another empowered woman!
MFS: And what makes Athina Marturet feel empowered?
AM: When I feel like myself, in my authenticity and essence. I’ve worked hard to vibrate at a high frequency that allows me to accept myself exactly as I am–treat me with love without taking me too seriously, but it is also necessary to speak to me firmly from the heart. I also feel empowered when I want something to manifest and achieve through discipline, perseverance, and focus.

Musa de Diseñadores, Alfombras Rojas y Empoderamiento
MFS: Has sido la musa de muchos diseñadores, caminado alfombras rojas, vistiendo trajes de: Carolina Herrera, Nicolás Felizola, Samy Gicherman, Viviana Gabeiras, Lisu Vega y Tammy Apóstol, entre otros. ¿Cómo ha sido tu experiencia con estos diseñadores?
AM: Todos ellos tienen en común la elegancia y cierta extravagancia y que entienden a la mujer moderna. Llevan los conceptos a las telas con tanta creatividad, que es algo que admiro mucho. Los diseñadores venezolanos como Nicolás Felizola, Ángel Sánchez, Oscar Carvallo, Samy Gicherman y nuestra Carolina Herrera tienen el “couture” en la sangre, son glamorosos, pero “effortless.” Como Carolina Herrera con sus blusas blancas. Silvia Tcherassi, tiene su estilo colorido sudamericano que me encanta. De Lisu Vega, me gusta su “wearable art” y Viviana Gabeiras, es única en creaciones en tela de “mesh”. Con Tammy celebramos el desfile de modas con ustedes “MFS Magazine”, aunado a nuestra MISO y fue un éxito. ¡Me encantó abrir y cerrar el desfile de esa colección sostenible!
MFS: Sabemos que la diseñadora venezolana, Gussy López, es una de tus favoritas de esta temporada. Háblanos de la química diseñador-cliente entre ustedes dos.
AM: Me conecté con los diseños de Gussy y su visión artística, porque combina estilos clásicos con futuristas, utilizando telas muy novedosas. Tiene una enorme creatividad y resuelve rápido como profesional que es y gracias a esa conexión se le hace fácil entenderme a la hora de diseñar una pieza para mí. ¡Es otra mujer empoderada!
MFS: ¿Y qué hace sentir empoderada a Athina Marturet, la mujer?
AM: Cuando me siento que soy yo, en mí autenticidad y esencia. He trabajado mucho en vibrar en una frecuencia alta que me permita aceptarme como soy. Quererme, no criticarme, tratarme con amor sin tomarme muy en serio, pero sí hace falta, también hablarme con firmeza desde el corazón. También me siento empoderada cuando quiero que algo se manifieste y lo obtengo con disciplina, constancia y enfoque.
