MFS Magazine: We remember when you were chosen in the “Top Real Women in Fashion 2012” list. Tell us how you feel about being on our “Top Real Women in Fashion & Business 2022-2023” list and what you remember most about the 2012 awards.

Natalia Cruz: I feel very honored and grateful to MFS for this recognition. As a communicator, I can not only make an impact as a journalist but also inspire others through fashion, which defines me and is an extension of my personality and style. I remember being named one of the “Top Real Women in Fashion” in 2012. Seeing strong, beautiful, intelligent, and influential women was a huge inspiration for me to continue growing in all aspects of my life and to understand that we never stop learning and undertaking new challenges.

MFS: From 2012 to today, ten years have passed and as we know everything evolves. How do you think your style has evolved in the last decade?

NC: Without a doubt, my style and personality have evolved over the last decade. I believe that over time, simplicity with elegance while also feeling comfortable is very important. I have found endless pleasure in pants in all their styles, including capri, wide-leg, straight, high-waisted, and so-called “jumpsuits.” I also consider jeans to be the best invention, and I love combining them with elegant blouses and blazers in vibrant colors. My favorites are the white and nude-colored pieces. Similarly, good accessories make a big difference and can take us from casual to formal in an instant.

Supporting Local Talent & Her Passion for Fashion

MFS: How do you choose the designers who dress you for those glamorous red-carpet appearances on TV and social media? Do you support local talent?

NC: My designers are generally creative, they know me well, and they get it right. I look for someone innovative with classic flashes, who is skilled with colors, combinations, and fabrics, and who knows how to build. For me, the quality of the materials used in the design is essential to attain a clean, fine, and overwhelming appearance. I adore designers like: Viviana Gabeiras, Tammy Apóstol, and Silvia Tcherassi, among others. Fortunately, there are great exponents of Hispanic talent in the world of fashion.

MFS: You’ve had a celebrated career as a journalist and news anchor on shows like “Primer Impacto,” and on Telemundo 47 and MegaTV. How do you combine your passion for fashion with your successful career? What are the criteria when choosing your outfits for each program where you are a presenter?

NC: For presentations and in everyday life, I try to dress according to the occasion and always remember the motto: “Less is More”. Typically, I prefer vibrant, solid colors for television. Personally, I am drawn to raw colors and, on occasion, pastels. Prints fascinate me, particularly in the spring and summer.

MFS Magazine: Recordamos cuando fuiste escogida dentro de la lista “Top Real Women in Fashion 2012.” ¿Cómo te sientes de estar nuevamente en nuestra lista “Top Real Women in Fashion & Business 2022-2023”? ¿Y qué es lo que más recuerdas de la premiación del 2012?

Natalia Cruz: Me siento muy honrada y agradecida con ustedes por este reconocimiento, que me hace sentir que en mi rol de comunicadora puedo impactar como periodista, pero también inspirar con la moda, algo que me caracteriza y forma parte de mi personalidad y estilo. Recuerdo con mucho cariño cuando me escogieron en el 2012 como “Top Real Women in Fashion”. Ver mujeres fuertes, bellas, inteligentes e influyentes, fue una gran inspiración que me motivó a seguir creciendo en todas las áreas de mi vida y a entender que nunca terminamos de aprender y emprender con nuevas ideas y retos.

MFS: Han pasados diez años desde el 2012 y todo evoluciona con el tiempo ¿Cómo piensas ha sido la evolución de tu estilo en esta última década?

NC: Después de 10 años, sin duda mi estilo y en lo personal todo ha cambiado. Con el tiempo es muy importante la sencillez con elegancia y a la vez sentirme cómoda. He hallado un gusto infinito en los pantalones en todos sus estilos, tambien los “jumpsuits” y disfruto combinarlos con blusas elegantes y blazers de colores vibrantes. Las piezas de color blanco y color piel son mis favoritas. Y unos buenos accesorios marcan una gran diferencia que nos puede hacer pasar de lo casual a lo formal en un segundo.

Apoyando el Talento Local y Su Pasión Por la Moda

MFS: ¿Cómo escoges a los diseñadores que te visten para tus alfombras rojas en las que siempre te vemos en TV y social media? ¿Apoyas el talento local?

NC: Mis diseñadores son creativos, me conocen bien y aciertan. Escojo a quien es innovador con destellos clásicos, que sepa manejar los colores, combinaciones y las telas con destreza y que sepa construir. La calidad de los materiales en el diseño para mí es indispensable para un look limpio, fino y arrollador. Adoro diseñadoras como: Viviana Gabeiras, Tammy Apóstol y Silvia Tcherassi, entre otras. Afortunadamente hay grandes exponentes del talento hispano en el mundo de la moda.

MFS: Has tenido una carrera muy celebrada como periodista y presentadora de noticias en “Primer Impacto”, Telemundo 47 y Mega TV. ¿Cómo combinas tu pasión por la moda con tu exitosa carrera? ¿Cuál es el criterio a la hora de escoger tus outfits para cada programa donde eres presentadora?

NC: Para las presentaciones y en la cotidianidad procuro vestir de acuerdo con la ocasión y siempre recordando que “Menos es Más”. Usualmente para la televisión, prefiero los colores vibrantes y sólidos. En lo personal, me fascinan los crudos y en ocasiones los pasteles. Los estampados me fascinan especialmente en época de verano y primavera.

Her Passion for Acting, Entrepreneurship & Women Empowerment

MFS: In 2016 you appeared as a guest actress in the series “Between Heaven and Earth” and at the end of 2019, you decided to pursue a full-time career in acting. Hence the short film “Perfect Mom” and the film “Melt on this”. Tell us a little about your passion for acting.

NC: As a child, I dreamed of being an actress. My mother used to read me children’s stories in a dramatic manner from a young age, and I remember being captivated by them. Later in school, I was always in plays and recited poetry in addition to writing it. When I was ten years old, I discovered Shakespeare’s works, which inspired not only a love of literature but also a passion for dramaturgy. I studied Social Communication and Journalism at my mother’s suggestion, and the career snatched me away from my acting dreams for many years until I recently decided to give that desire free rein, and I’ve been able to participate in several films. And let me tell you that I’m currently filming a series that will hopefully be available on a major streaming service soon.

MFS: You have proven to be an excellent entrepreneur, through businesses and partnerships that we have seen you carry out successfully, such as the real estate TV show “Esta es tu Casa”—and now you have a podcast called “Good Morning, Doral” where you work as director and host. How do you manage your time to coordinate so many commitments and at the same time develop the most important role of every woman, such as being a mother of 4 children?

NC: I enjoy both my job and I love being a mother, so the time required by both roles is not a sacrifice for me. I actually enjoy them. My children are the lifeblood of my existence. I am currently the host and director of “Good Morning Doral,” a responsibility entrusted to me by the founders and directors of the “Doral Voice” station, Juan Carlos Esquivel and his wife, Nancy, whom I adore, respect, and admire very much. I present the program daily with Sergio Silva, my partner, and friend.

MFS: This edition is dedicated to female empowerment, we would like to ask you what makes Natalia Cruz, the woman, mother, and entrepreneur, feel empowered?

NC: I feel empowered knowing that I was able to bring my children forward in the midst of joy, sadness, challenges, and trials. Having them by my side, receiving their love on a daily basis, and seeing how special they make me feel like the effort was worthwhile. Personally, and professionally, I also feel empowered because when ideas come to me, I strive to be diligent in materializing them, even if some are still in the works. That is what life is all about: not stopping until you achieve the goals and purposes that God has for everyone. You must build every day, be grateful to celebrate your blessings, and accept life’s lessons with confidence and security.

MFS: And how has Natalia Cruz helped other women feel empowered?

NC: Through the media, I have been blessed to reach many places and people with a message of hope and inspiration. From my social reports and community service to the day-to-day on the radio, microphones bring testimonies of life that inspire other women to love and accept themselves, to start their businesses, to not give up, and to keep fighting for their dreams. Each of us is a mirror in which many people can be reflected; everything we do must be done with love and responsibility because we never know when our example will change someone else’s life.

Su Pasión por la Actuación, Emprendimiento y Empoderamiento

MFS: En el 2016 te presentaste como actriz invitada en la serie “Entre Cielo y Tierra” y a finales del 2019, decidiste seguir una carrera de tiempo completo en la actuación. De allí el cortometraje “Perfect Mom” y el filme “Melt on this”. Háblanos un poco sobre tu pasión por la actuación.

NC: De niña soñaba con ser actríz. Mi madre desde muy chiquita me leía los cuentos infantiles en forma dramatizada y recuerdo que yo escuchaba embelesada. Luego en la escuela siempre formaba parte de las obras de teatro y declamaba poesía, además de escribirla. A los 10 años descubrí las obras de Shakespeare que alentaron en mí no solo la pasión por la literatura, sino también por la dramaturgía. Por sugerencia de mi madre estudié comunicación social y periodismo y la carrera me atrapó, así que por muchos años dejé de lado los sueños actorales, hasta que recientemente decidí darle rienda suelta a ese anhelo y he logrado participar en varios filmes. Y les adelanto que actualmente estoy filmando para una serie que ojalá pronto podamos ver en un importante servicio de streaming.

MFS: Has demostrado ser una excelente entrepreneur, a través de negocios y partnerships que te hemos visto sacar adelante con éxito, como lo fue el TV show de bienes y raíces “Esta es tu Casa”—y ahora tienes un podcast llamado “Good Morning, Doral” donde te desenvuelves como directora y host. ¿Como manejas tu tiempo para coordinar tantos compromisos a la vez y al mismo tiempo desarrollar el papel más importante de toda mujer, como es el ser madre de 4 hijos?

NC: Amo mi profesión y amo ser madre por lo tanto el tiempo que demandan los dos roles, no significan un sacrificio para mí. Literalmente los disfruto. Mis hijos son el motor de mi existencia. En la actualidad trabajo como conductora y directora de “Good Morning Doral”, una responsabilidad que me encargaron los fundadores y directores de la emisora “Doral Voice”, Juan Carlos Esquivel y su esposa Nancy a quienes quiero, respeto y admiro mucho. El programa lo presento diariamente con Sergio Silva, compañero y amigo.

MFS: Como sabemos esta edición está dedicada al empoderamiento femenino, nos gustaría preguntarte que hace sentir empoderada a Natalia Cruz, la mujer, madre y mujer de negocios.

NC: Me siento empoderada al ver que he podido sacar adelante a mis hijos, en medio de las alegrías, de las tristezas, de los retos y de las pruebas. Tenerlos a mi lado, recibir su amor a diario y ver que son seres tan especiales, me hace sentir que el esfuerzo ha valido la pena. En lo personal y laboral también me siento como una mujer empoderada porque cuando llegan las ideas, busco ser diligente en materializarlas, aunque algunas aún están en el proceso, pero de eso se trata la vida, no detenerse hasta lograr las metas y propósitos que Dios tiene para cada uno. Hay que construir a diario, ser agradecido para celebrar las bendiciones y recibir las lecciones de la vida con confianza y seguridad.

MFS: ¿Y cómo Natalia Cruz ha ayudado a otras mujeres a sentirse empoderadas?

NC: A través de los medios de comunicación he tenido la bendición de llegar a muchos lugares y personas con un mensaje de esperanza e inspiración. Desde mis reportajes de carácter social y de ayuda a la comunidad, hasta el día a día en los micrófonos de la radio trayendo testimonios de vida que motivan a otras mujeres a quererse y aceptarse a sí mismas, a emprender sus propios negocios, a no desfallecer y seguir luchando por sus sueños. Cada uno de nosotros es un espejo en el que mucha gente puede reflejarse, de ahí la importancia de que cada cosa que hacemos debe ser con amor y responsabilidad, porque no sabemos cuándo nuestro ejemplo puede cambiarle la vida a alguien más.
