New independent film festival to make its debut on Miami Beach showcasing local and international talent

A group of talented and pioneering film and entertainment professionals are scheduled to debut a series of short independent films they produced on location in South Florida at the inaugural “Bright Minds Film Festival”. The new film festival is scheduled to debut at The Colony Theater on Lincoln Road on Tuesday, November 26th at 6 p.m.

Screenings of six short films will take place that evening; the film titles are: “Alone”, “Eternal Emotions”, “Happiness”, “One Life”, “The Perfect Stroke” and “Cueva de Ilusiones”. The films are either in English, Spanish or Portuguese, with subtitles in English. The organizers of the event’s goal are that it will be the first of an annual new independent short film festival platform to showcase the talent of local, national and international professionals on a competitive basis; hoping that it will contribute to putting Miami in the map as a hub for the arts, culture and entertainment.

As one of the highlights of the evening the first “Bright Minds Film Festival Life Achievement Award” will be given to internationally renowned Mexican television and film actress and director Adriana Barraza, who has been nominated for a Golden Globe, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, a Broadcast Films Critics Association, and an Academy Award for best supporting actress for her role in “Babel”, starred by Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. She won an award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture at the San Francisco Film Critics Circle Awards for the same film.

“We are incredibly fortunate to be able to share the work of our team with others in our community,” said Jose Alexzander, Bright Minds Film Festival Director and one of the featured film’s directors. “We hope to use this unique platform to showcase other budding filmmakers, producers and artists in the future,” added Alexzander.

All of the films share a common theme about human relationships and important life decisions. They were all either directed or produced by the festival co-founders and filmmakers, who not only share in common impressive backgrounds and talent, but also a passion for the art of filmmaking. The leading team includes: Jose Alexzander, Elda Medina, Omar Jimenez, Carola Parmejano, Gui Agustini and Christina Jolie Breza, all of whom played different roles in the production of the six films, which were made with budgets of under $3,000 each.

The evening will begin with a Welcome Cocktail Reception at 6 p.m. That will be followed by a Red Carpet to greet renowned celebrities and personalities from the arts, film and television industries at 6:45pm – list of VIP guests in attendance will be released in November – , opening remarks at 7:20pm, and the first screening starts with “One Life” at 7:30pm “One Life” was originally featured at “Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival” in September 10th, 2013. The night will also include a live music performance by artist Grethel Ortiz, in collaboration with Latin Grammy Award winner Tony Tahan and Gibson Guitars’ artist Luis Gomez.
